windows live movie maker

The new Windows Live Movie Maker (Windows Vista or 7 only) which just came out of beta, was completely redesigned - it now features the love-it-or-hate-it ribbon interface. On its tabs are loads of transition effects, filters and fades, caption tools, and ready access to editing functions. Videos can be created in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios and resolutions up to 1080p. YouTube uploading is now built-in and other services like Facebook, SmugMug, Picasa, and Drupal-based sites can be added via plugins.

There is also a new feature called Auto Movie targeted towards less-technical users. With it you can create a videos under one minute, just select the images, give it a caption, choose the soundtracks and you are good to go. Microsoft has removed the classic timeline from the the main interface, instead you will find a brand new storyboard that makes quick video and audio editing possible.
