Ubuntu / Linux news and application reviews.

Installing an operating system, even if it's in VirtualBox, can take quite some time. If you want to try out lots of different Linux distributions, this will become very time-consuming. But guess what: there's a website which provides VirtualBox images of several free and/or open-source operating systems, such as GNU/Linux or Free/Net/OpenBSD.

Basically, that means that all you have to do is download a VirtualBox image of the Linux distribution you want to use in your virtual machine and you are ready to go. Want to try out Ubuntu Karmic beta in VM? All you have to do is download the image from their SourceForge website.

The ready to use VirtualBox images include: ArchLinux, CentOS, Damn Small Linux, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, gOS, PCLinuxOS, Slackware, Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Xubuntu, Zenwalk, LinuxMint, Mandiva, Moblin2, OpenSUSE, OpenSolaris, FreeBSD, ReactOS, Haiku and many others.

The versions range from very old to new, beta releases. For instance, they have images for Ubuntu: 6.06, 7.10, 8.04, 8.10, 8.10 server, 9..04, 9.10 alpha 1 and beta.
